BiSolar
Beautifully integrated solar roof tiles with no changes to standard tiles
What is BiSolar?
Designed with aesthetics in mind, BiSolar is a new type of solar roof. The system is made from interconnected solar roof tiles that blend in beautifully and are not easily seen.
Each solar roof tile is made from two basic parts:
A standard, unaltered concrete roof tile (flat, dark grey).
A specially designed solar panel (18.0 Wp, 6.78 V).
Whether you are a concrete roof tile manufacturer, a house builder, a roofer, a solar installer, a BIPV supplier, or an architect, BiSolar gives you a fantastic new business opportunity. Enhance your product range in the rapidly growing photovoltaic roofing industry.
In 2016, Building-Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) roofing accounted for just 1% of the overall PV market. Due to increasing demand, this was forecasted to rise steeply to 6.5% by 2022, but has since excelled all expectations and is now already at 6%, generating around 6 GW of power world-wide.
The 6 GW output equates to about 10 billion Euro yearly turnover – the global BIPV roofing market has grown from 1.5 billion Euros to 10 billion Euros in the last three years.
This trend is predicted to continue, driven by the demand for aesthetically pleasing, solar-roof integration. In addition, people will become more aware of the benefits of battery storage, the cost of batteries will continue to decrease, and €/Wp will improve with new advancements in solar technologies.
A recent study by MIT found that people are willing to pay a higher price for better-looking solar panels, with panels that blend into the background and match the colour of the roof being most preferred.
The study also found that people would buy less efficient solar panels if they were aesthetically pleasing, and that presenting images of better-looking solar panels reduced the uncertainty of installing solar for customers.
The researchers concluded that aesthetics is a major driving factor in the adoption of solar panels – people want solar panels that integrate with the roof and don’t stand out / are not easily seen.
Traditional solar panels are highly visible and spoil the aesthetics of the house. BiSolar PVs have been designed to be the same colour as standard roof tiles, so that the panels blend in and are aesthetically pleasing, even when they are exposed to the sun and active. As such, BiSolar adds substantial market value to homes.
Traditional solar panels are attached to the roof by making holes for supporting frames. This damages roof structural integrity and increases the chances of water penetration. BiSolar does not alter conventional roof tiles in any way.
Traditional solar panels are installed after the installation of the roof, increasing costs. BiSolar is laid at the same time as laying the roof, greatly reducing the cost of installation.
When activated by the sun, similar products tend to be blue and easily seen, spoiling the appearance of the house. BiSolar PVs have been designed to be the same colour as standard roof tiles, so that the panels blend in and are aesthetically pleasing, even when exposed to the sun and active.
In most similar products, wires from the solar panels are passed through holes in the concrete roof tiles, damaging structural integrity and increasing the chances of water penetration. BiSolar does not alter conventional roof tiles in any way.
Most similar products use solar panels that are semi-flexible, utilising plastic for a front layer. BiSolar uses industry-standard glass, greatly increasing reliability and durability.
